AA: We classify a Ruby as AA when it has superior clarity (minor eye-visible inclusions are still possible at the AA grade). We assign this grade primarily for colour and eye-appeal of the stone. The majority of the ruby we offer is Burmese in origin, heated Mong-Hsu production (unless otherwise described) and our AA grade material will satisfy your needs for fine quality, vivid Red to Slightly purplish red colour. Well suited stones for center stones, or accents in fine jewellery.
A: Our 'A' grade rubies are a minor step below our 'AA'. This will generally be due to more noticeable inclusions, or a slight 'sleepiness' to the stone. For colour, you can expect excellent colour, although there may be slight pink or purplish secondary tones that prevent the AA grade. Extremely presentable material. Unless otherwise specified, these will be Burmese, Mong-Hsu production, heat only.
B: At the B grade, you will find more heavily included stones with noticeable inclusions and/or sleepiness. For colour, our B grade stones will have more noticeable purple or pink components that keeps them from a higher classification. Unless otherwise specified, these will be Burmese, Mong-Hsu production, heat only.
For all of our rubies - if you need a colour match, we will do our best to match from a photograph, or you may request a sample on memo and you may select your own. In many of our parcels, where we have sufficient quantity in stock we are able to match pairs and suites for you at no additional charge. Please request this at the time of ordering.
For treatment - please assume all our rubies are heat-treated only (there may be borax flux residues present). Where we offer no-heat ruby, we will specify this in the individual listing. We do not offer or carry lead-glass enhanced rubies.
