AA: We classify a sapphire as AA when it has no visible inclusions to the naked eye, and when it has pleasant open colour with fine tone and attractive saturation. We refrain from using trade terms such as 'cornflower' or 'royal' blue, but at the AA grade, many of our stones could be described as such. AA grade stones are excellent choices for feature stones, or accents for fine jewellery.
A: An 'A' stone is one that has superior colour, but has minor, non-detracting inclusions visible to the naked eye. An 'A' stone may also be an eye-clean stone that has visible colour zoning. We suggest 'A' stones where your client wants a quality stone, but is more budget-conscious.
B: Our 'B' sapphires tend to be the classic darker, inky coloured basaltic sapphires found in Australia and Nigeria. These stones will generally be eye clean, but will be noticeably more saturated than the higher grades of sapphire we offer. If you have a client who prefers a darker coloured sapphire, then 'B' is where you should be looking.
For all of our sapphires - if you need a colour match, we will do our best to match from a photograph, or you may request a sample on memo and you may select your own. In many of our parcels, where we have sufficient quantity in stock we are able to match pairs and suites for you at no additional charge. Please request this at the time of ordering.
For treatment - please assume all our sapphires are conventional heat-treated only. Where we offer no-heat sapphire, we will specify this in the individual listing. We do not offer or carry lead-glass enhanced or diffused sapphires.
